Table of Contents
Hello everyone,
Sorry for not being around last week, there were some things that went down, so I decided to kind of stay off the internet for a week or so. So we are about a week behind on our recipes, but that’s okay, at least there is a lot of content.
If you noticed on the Table of Contents, we are starting to add a little something different to the blog, we are adding the history of the food as well! This is something that we talk a lot about on the stream and knowing the history behind the food is very interesting and helps you to appreciate the food more!
As always, feel free to skip it by hitting the part of the post that you want to go to!
In 1983 Mexican food was growing in Philly, Alan Drazen saw this and was working for Jack and Jill Ice Cream as a Manager at the time. He thought he could absolutely take advantage of this and help to make ice cream more mobile by creating an ice cream in a taco shell. Thus, the choco taco was born.
He wound up selling to Unilever and it went under the Klondike brand util it was ultimately discontinued a few years ago. There was outrage everywhere. Unilever stated the reason it was discontinued is because they ‘might not have enough ice cream for the rest of their products.’
Alan tried to buy the recipe back, but it was denied. There were even senators who tried to bring it back, but obviously it was denied stating that America is a free market and it cannot be manipulated by the government. Funny, I know.
I will include how to make the waffle cones, but you will have to buy the waffle maker for it because it is a very thin waffle maker. If you do not have it, you can buy waffle taco shells online or even from your local store.
Please make sure that your cream is at least room temperature or you will seize your chocolate and have to start again; believe me I had to do this several times and was super frustrated by chocolate not doing what I wanted it to do.
I include a no-churn ice cream, but again, if you don’t have time for that, you can buy your favorite ice cream to go in the shells!
