Strawberry Gin Fizz

For a couple of weeks, I have been obsessed with making different kinds of gin fizzes.

I mean I have made everything from orange to strawberry.  My favorite being the strawberry.

I put an egg white in the shaker too so that you get this awesome foam on the top and get to feel all fancy.

I first started drinking gin fizzes when I was a junior in college.  I wanted something that I could order and sound more like an adult than a kid who is drinking.

The first gin fizz that I ordered was a Sloe gin fizz.  Sloe Gin is a gin from the prohibition era that happened to stay around to nowadays.  It was very fruity to hide the smell of the alcohol.

So you get a really fruity drink.

I think that’s why I have liked making my gin fizzes with so many different fruits, not to hide the alcohol but to find things that go hand in hand with the alcohol.

This is probably why I like strawberry so much, you can definitely taste the gin, but it has this sweet aftertaste from the strawberry.  They complement each other so well.

Ingredients

  • 8 strawberries chopped
  • 5 mint leaves
  • 1 lime sliced
  • 1 egg white
  • ice
  • 1-2 shots of gin
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Soda water

Instructions

  1. Muddle the strawberries, mint, sugar and 1/2 lime juiced
  2. add the egg white, 1/2 of lime you have left, ice, and gin
  3. Shake for 3-4 minutes
  4. Pour into a cup and pour soda on top
  5. Top with a strawberry or lime

I wanted a gin fizz to be next on my classic cocktails because it comes from my favorite place, New Orleans, and was created in the 1800s.  If that’s not classic, I don’t know what is.
