Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin pie is probably the one thing, other than turkey, that you think about when it comes to Thanksgiving.

However, you might not remember to get evaporated milk or you want to make it out of a real pumpkin.

It can be done.

It may not be the prettiest thing in the world, the color is different when you use a sugar pie pumpkin.

But it tastes amazing.

I remember the first time that we tried to make a pumpkin pie out of a real pumpkin, it was my ex-brother-in-law and his girlfriend, they were having a competition about who could make the best pumpkin pie.

My BIL used real pumpkin and his girlfriend used a can.

I can honestly say that I liked the texture of the real pumpkin better.

Since then I have tried to perfect the recipe, making changes here and there.

I knew I wanted to share this recipe with you guys, but when I went to start to make the pie, I realized I had no evaporated milk.

Who makes a pie without evaporated milk?

It took a few tries, but I improvised and used whole milk instead.  I didn’t even think it was possible, but this was one of the most moist and wonderful pumpkin pies that I have made in a long time.

I was really worried when I made the mixture and it was very very runny.  I’ve never had it be so runny.

I just continued on, doing what I do best, and hoping that it worked out.

After a little over an hour, I took it out, poked it with a toothpick, and it came out clean.  Which means, it was finished.

It cracked a little and it wasn’t the color that I really wanted it, but it was still very gorgeous.

Throw some whipped cream on top and you have something amazing and the perfect way to end your Thanksgiving meal.
