I think one of the most thoughtful that someone can put together for their mom is a gift basket.  It means that you really put in a lot of time and effort into trying to figure out what to get them.

Of course, you always have to start off with a card.

The card is what says what you are trying to convey.

I went to my local Army and Airforce Exchange Service and picked up some American Greetings Cards and paper for the gift basket!

My mother has worked for the government and been in the Army and sometimes feels removed from the rest of the world.  Especially days like Mother's Day.

When you go into Army and Air Force Exchange Services you will see a sign for a promotion for "Buy 3 cards, Save $2."  If only I had 3 mothers to buy for, but you can buy for Aunts, Grandmothers, and other women in your life who deserve recognition.

I really wanted my gift basket to be something that my mom would both use and would find fun.

So I decided to do something that focused on her likes; coffee, tea, and food.

If your mom is into these things, here are some suggestions for what to put in your gift basket.

Start off with the card, the best cards are American Greetings cards and they have so many to choose from.  I went with one with a bookmark on it because she loves reading.  They have several of these kinds.

My son got me one last year that is just simple and to the point, which I loved.

Their cards say ‘I love you,’ better than most cards do.

For the coffee section, I got her a coffee cup with some awesome and strong coffee.  Nothing says, “I love you mom,” like copious amounts of caffeine.  I mean, we need it as mothers, don’t we?

I found this great little teapot with some wonderful tea to fulfill her tea needs.  I also found these great tea towels with coffee and wine sayings on them.  They made me happy, so I knew that they would make her happy.

I also got her a recipe binder for her to put all of her recipes in that she comes up with.  This one is cool because it comes with free printouts so that you can keep your recipes all organized.

I also got her a cookbook that she’s been wanting lately.  She’s on a health food kick, so it definitely fits with wanting to be healthier.

And finally, I got her an awesome and hilarious t-shirt that says ‘But First, We Brunch.’  I just find this t-shirt amazing and so appropriate.

I have a feeling that she’ll like everything, but she will keep the card forever.  She has kept every card, bought or handmade, since we were kids.  And now I do the same thing.

There’s just something so special about receiving a card, it makes you feel like you were thought of.

  2. Figure out what makes her happy!

  3. Get creative with your receptacle (I used a little organizer fabric box)

  4. Make it a gift that keeps on giving

  5. Use different textures and papers to give it a lively look

  6. Layer it well with different articles that you bought

  7. Send it off with a smile
